Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Recap previous knowledge about using visual models. Quick brainstorm: What do you already know about using visual models? Introduction to today's objectives regarding using visual models. Mental drill or quick quiz related to using visual models.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
1. Introduce division of whole numbers by unit fractions (e.g., 3 ÷ 1/2). 2. Model the concept: 'How many 1/4s are in 1?' leads to '3 ÷ 1/4 = 12'. 3. Introduce the 'invert and multiply' rule simply as a shortcut. 4. Practice: Solve 4 ÷ 1/3 and 2 ÷ 1/5 in notebooks.
