Subject: Computing
Class: Basic 8
Component 1
Input & Output Devices.
Topic: Demonstrate understanding of direct data entry devices
| Strand: Introduction To Computing | Sub-strand: Input & Output Devices. |
| Indicator: B8.1.1.1.2. Demonstrate understanding of direct data entry devices | Content Standard: B8.1.1.1. Identify parts a computer and technology tools |
| Performance Indicator: Learners can demonstrate understanding of direct data entry devices | T.L.R.(s): Barcode scanner, Printed barcode and QR-code cards, Printed RFID-reader photographs |
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning phase1_starter (5mins) Revise with learners to review their understanding in the previous lesson. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Learners operate the Barcode scanner on the Printed barcode and QR-code cards and observe how encoded data enters the computer without typing. They then examine the Printed RFID-reader photographs and describe how radio-frequency tags can be read in shops, libraries or transport systems. Groups compare barcode, QR-code and RFID entry by contact, distance and common Ghanaian use and explain why they are direct-data-entry technologies rather than ordinary manual input. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Reflection (10mins) Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson. |
Component 2
Input & Output Devices.
Topic: Examine the uses of the output devices
| Strand: Introduction To Computing | Sub-strand: Input & Output Devices. |
| Indicator: B8.1.1.1.3. Examine the uses of the output devices: | Content Standard: B8.1.1.1. Identify parts a computer and technology tools |
| Performance Indicator: Learners can examine the uses of the output devices | T.L.R.(s): Computer monitor, Printer, Printed photographs of wearable displays |
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Share performance indicators and introduce the lesson. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Concrete-resource task: Set out these resources for each group: Computer monitor; Printer; Printed photographs of wearable displays. Learners inspect the hardware and printed examples, then operate or compare them during the computing task below.
Revise with learners on some common output devices they know.
Ask groups to identify any four types of output devices and state its functions.
Guide learners to identify Braille printers, Impact, Inkjet, Thermal, Wax, 3D printers from pictures.
Guide learners to explore the features of these output devices.
Explore how these output devices work in real life situations.
Assessment State and explain three features of Braille printers, Impact, Inkjet, Thermal, Wax, 3D printers | Phase 3plenary / reflections Take feedback from learners and summarize the lesson. |
