Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Flash letter cards to learners for them to make its sounds. Ask pupils to write some letters in the air as you mention them Have learners to write letter patterns in the air. Engage learners to sing songs and dance to it
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Lead learners to say the letters of the alphabet as a group. Call learners to say the letters of the alphabet in turns. Practice syllable recognition and separation with learners on the board. Allow learners to apply the knowledge to recognize and separate syllables in words. Lead learners to say the letters of the alphabet as a group. Call learners to say the letters of the alphabet in turns. Practice adding individual sounds to one syllabic words. Encourage learners to add sounds to one-syllabic words to form new words on their own. E.g. /ba/ + /g/ = bag /ba/ + /t/ = bat Lead learners to say the letters of the alphabet as a group. demonstrate adding one sound to two-syllabic words to form new words on the board. Let learners apply the knowledge to substitute one sound in two syllable words to make up new words. e.g. /table/ -/t/ + /c/ = /cable/ /carrot/ - /c/ + /p/ = /parrot/ /toffee/ -/t/ + /c/=/coffee/ For this activity, learners use locally made letter cards, word cards with pictures of local objects and bottle tops marked with letters to build and read words by arranging letters and matching each word to a familiar object picture.
