Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Let learners sing songs to stimulate their interest
Use questions and answers to review what they learnt in the previous lessons Get a viral picture, a trending news on twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media handles. Discuss what is trending and invite learners to share their opinions on them. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Display charcoal pieces and graphite pencils as familiar materials that contain carbon. Learners observe them without burning or tasting and discuss their everyday uses.
Groups examine printed photographs of local foods plants and the carbon cycle. They trace how carbon is present in living things, soil, air and useful materials and how it moves through feeding, decay and gas exchange.
Learners create a spoken carbon pathway linking the charcoal pieces, graphite pencils and one photograph, then explain one responsible way to reduce harmful smoke or excessive carbon-dioxide release. | Phase 3plenary / reflections Ask learners to tell the class what they have learnt.
