| Performance Indicator: Learners can investigate the uses of metals in everyday life, and link the uses to their properties | Core Competencies: Problem Solving skills; Critical Thinking; Justification, of Ideas; |
| T.L.R.(s): aluminium cooking pot, steel spoon, copper wire | Keywords: Everyday, Uses, Properties |
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Display different objects made from metals.
Engage learners in groups to write names of the objects and present their answers in class Revise learners RPK by engaging them in the ‘Mystery Box’ The teacher brings a bag into the classroom that contains an object that has a connection to the lesson. Then it is passed around and learners try to determine what is in the bag just by feeling it. The student who guess right wins, and hence introduce the lesson | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Learners, through discussion, come out with uses of metals by observing the objects displayed in class or from a video (these include farm tools, jewelry, ornaments, cars, bridges, metallic spoons). have leaners to investigate the use of metals in everyday life and presents their findings to class Have learners to link the use of the metal to its property E.g. copper is used to make wires because it conducts electricity, aluminum is used to make roofing sheets because it is malleable. Relate the lesson to everyday life to promote curiosity
For this activity, learners use aluminium cooking pot, steel spoon and copper wire to handle and compare familiar metal objects and link each observed property to a local use. | Phase 3plenary / reflections What have we learnt today?
