Start the lesson with a debate. Teacher chooses a topic or allow learners to choose their own topic. e.g. "should children under 18 be allowed to vote?". Elaborate on learners points and summarise the debate Engage learners to play games and sing songs to begin the lesson. Use questions to review learners understanding in the previous lesson.

Learners inspect viable maize and okra seeds and predict similarities and differences in their growth. Sow the seeds at suitable spacing in soil-filled pots or school garden bed and label each type. Use a watering can and plant-growth record cards to establish a care schedule. Learners water appropriately and record germination, height, leaf development, flowering, fruiting and new seed production over time. Groups use their plant-growth record cards to prepare a report or poster of the full life cycle. The plants remain in soil rather than cotton-wool jars so they can be cared for toward maturity.
