Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Engage students in a brief discussion about their favorite stories or books, encouraging them to share why they like them.
Play an audio recording of a short story and ask students to listen carefully for key details.
Introduce a picture book and ask students to predict what the story might be about based on the cover and illustrations. | Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment Oral Language:
Facilitate a pair activity where students share facts they remember from a story and discuss these facts with their partner.
Organize a group discussion where students take turns sharing a fact they found interesting from a text, encouraging active listening.
Reading:
Guide students in reading a short, level-appropriate story, offering minimal support while focusing on comprehension.
Conduct a shared reading session where students read aloud in turns, fostering fluency and confidence.
Writing:
Ask students to draw a picture related to a story they read and write a sentence expressing their opinion about it.
Provide a sentence starter and have students complete it with their opinion about a character or event in a story.
