Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin with a short discussion on favorite books or stories to engage students in sharing opinions. Introduce a short paragraph from a level-appropriate text and ask students to predict what it might be about. Conduct a brief brainstorming session on the importance of punctuation in writing and speaking.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Listen to an audio recording of a narrative and discuss the main ideas and opinions expressed. Conduct a class debate on a topic from the text, encouraging students to express and justify their opinions. Grammar: Explore the use of punctuation marks in a given text and discuss how they alter the meaning and clarity. Conduct a punctuation scavenger hunt in the text to identify and correct misplaced or missing punctuation. Reading: Read a poem aloud and have students share their interpretations and opinions on its themes. Assign a text passage for silent reading and have students summarize their opinions on the author's message. Writing: Guide students in writing a short narrative paragraph, focusing on expressing personal opinions clearly. Have students write a summary of the text, emphasizing their own perspectives and insights. Literature: Read a selected poem and discuss the emotions and opinions it evokes in the class. Explore character motivations in a narrative and encourage students to express their views on character actions.
