Week 7: Lesson Plan
Subject: Career Technology
Class: Basic 7

Component 1

Compliant Materials

Topic: Explain how compliant materials are manufactured/produced

Strand: Materials for ProductionSub-strand: Compliant Materials
Indicator: B7.2.1.1.3 Explain how compliant materials are manufactured/producedContent Standard: B7.2.1.1 Demonstrate knowledge of basic concept of compliant materials
Performance Indicator: Learners can describe the process in making a paperT.L.R.(s): Sawdust sample, Paper and card samples, Printed paper-making sequence
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Recap with learners to find out what they already know about paper production. Ask: 1. How are papers obtained? 2. What can be used in place of papers? 3. What importance does papers play in our everyday life?
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Learners examine the Sawdust sample as evidence of the plant fibre from which pulp can be made. They compare the thickness and finish of the Paper and card samples. Groups arrange the stages on the Printed paper-making sequence from wood preparation through pulping, pressing and drying. They then explain how additional layers or processing produce card and connect each stage to the samples.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Use peer discussion and effective questioning to find out from learners what they have learnt during the lesson.

Component 2

Compliant Materials

Topic: Explain how compliant materials are manufactured/produced

Strand: Materials for ProductionSub-strand: Compliant Materials
Indicator: B7.2.1.1.3 Explain how compliant materials are manufactured/producedContent Standard: B7.2.1.1 Demonstrate knowledge of basic concept of compliant materials
Performance Indicator: Learners can describe the process involved in making a fabricT.L.R.(s): Raw cotton sample, Spun yarn, Kente fabric offcut
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Share the performance indicators and introduce the lesson. Recap with learners to find out what they already know about the making of fibers.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Learners examine the Raw cotton sample and gently separate its fibres. They compare the loose fibres with the Spun yarn and identify the change produced by spinning. Groups then study the Kente fabric offcut to trace how yarn becomes woven cloth. They arrange and explain the production sequence from fibre preparation to spinning, weaving and finishing and identify safe care practices for each material.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Take feedback from learners and summarize the lesson.
