Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning Engage learners to play games and sing songs to begin the lesson.

Learners observe the sealed sample without collecting or touching raw animal waste.
Compare a potted maize plant growing in ordinary soil with a teacher-prepared example containing mature compost. Learners identify visible differences and discuss soil fertility.
Under teacher supervision, learners use a hand trowel and disposable gloves to apply only clean teacher-supplied mature compost around a demonstration plant.
