Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin with a warm-up song that includes Wh- questions to engage students. Have a short circle time where students share their favorite animals and describe them using simple adjectives. Introduce a few new vocabulary words related to the theme of the week, using flashcards and pictures.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Engage students in a role-play activity where they ask and answer Wh- questions in pairs, focusing on correct pronunciation and intonation. Conduct a listening exercise where students identify the Wh- questions from a short story read aloud. Reading: Select a short, age-appropriate storybook and have students read it aloud in pairs, highlighting any new vocabulary encountered. Provide a set of sentences from the story and ask students to match them with corresponding illustrations. Writing: Guide students to write simple sentences using newly learned vocabulary and basic descriptive words. Create a worksheet where students fill in blanks with action words in present continuous tense. Using Writing Conventions: Introduce a sentence-building game where students form sentences using action words in present continuous tense. Conduct a peer review session where students check each other’s sentences for correct use of action words. Extensive Reading: Set up a reading corner with a variety of picture books and encourage students to choose and read one book quietly. Have students share their favorite part of a book they read with the class, focusing on descriptive language.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Oral Language: Conduct a quick oral quiz where students answer Wh- questions based on a story read during the lesson. Reading: Ask students to reflect on a new word they learned and used today, sharing its meaning and context. Writing: Have students share one sentence they wrote using a descriptive word, focusing on peer feedback. Using Writing Conventions: Review a few student-written sentences on the board, discussing correct usage of action words. Extensive Reading: Invite students to recommend a book they enjoyed from the reading corner, explaining why they liked it.
