Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin with a circle time activity where learners share one thing they like about themselves. Introduce a story that features familiar family structures and community roles to engage learners. Play a simple word-building game where learners create CVC words using letters s, t, u.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Learners participate in a role-play activity where they act out a short segment from the story introduced earlier, focusing on intonation and expression. Engage learners in a group discussion about their family members and their roles, encouraging the use of full sentences. Reading: Guide learners through a shared reading session of a simple text that includes common family and community terms, highlighting CVC words. Organize a picture-word matching game where learners connect images of family members and places with written words. Writing: Provide learners with a picture prompt related to family or community and guide them to write a simple sentence about it, using CVC words. Conduct a group writing session where learners collaboratively create a short paragraph about a community place, using correct noun capitalization. Writing Conventions: Introduce a mini-lesson on capitalizing names, using learners' names as examples, and have them practice with worksheets.
