Indicator (code): B5.2.1.3.1 Demonstrate evaporation and, condensation as important processes of the, hydrological (water) cycleContent Std (code): B5.2.1.3 Show understanding of the roles of, condensation, evaporation, transpiration and, precipitation in the hydrological (water) cycle
Performance Indicator: Learners can demonstrate evaporation and condensation, as important processes of the hydrological (water) cycleCore Competencies: Problem Solving skills; Critical Thinking; Justification of Ideas;, Collaborative Learning;
T.L.R.(s): clear bowl of teacher-provided warm water, cool metal lid, printed water-cycle chartKeywords: Condensation, Water, Evaporation
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Get a viral picture, a trending news on twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media handles.
Discuss what is trending and invite learners to share their opinions on them
Have learners share what is going on in their lives. You and your learners might talk about plans for the weekends. Ask learners questions to review their understanding in the previous lesson
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Place a cool metal lid over a clear bowl of teacher-provided warm water. Learners observe from a safe distance as water vapour meets the lid and forms visible droplets. Discuss evaporation from the warm water and condensation on the cool metal lid. Learners compare the demonstration with water drying from wet hands or clothes in the Sun. Groups trace evaporation, condensation and rainfall on a printed water-cycle chart and explain how the demonstration represents part of the cycle. Do not use boiling water or open flames.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
