Basic 6 Creative Arts Term 1 Week 2 Lesson Plan

Learners are to watch a short video that reflects topical issues in the local community; Ask learners to talk about parts of the video or pictures that interest them. Play games and recite rhymes that learners are familiar with to begin the lesson. Ask learners questions to review their understanding in the previous lesson.

Display printed photographs of selected international performers and identify each performer’s country, art form and a suitable example of their work. Discuss how performance can reflect the history and culture of a community. Learners compare a rhythm or performance feature from the photographs with a familiar Ghanaian rhythm demonstrated on a locally made drum. They create a short respectful rhythmic response rather than copying unsafe or unsuitable movements. Groups complete artist-profile cards with the performer’s name, origin, art form, selected work and contribution. They present the profile and their comparison.

Ask learners to tell the whole class what they have learnt. Learners tell what they will like to learn. Use series of questions and answers to review learners understanding of the lesson. Call learners in turns to summarize the lesson.
