Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin with a short interactive activity where students introduce themselves and share one interesting fact about their favorite book or story. Engage students in a quick warm-up by asking them to describe a fun or memorable experience they had during the weekend. Conduct a brief listening exercise where the teacher reads a short humorous poem or riddle, and students discuss the playful use of words.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Organize a group discussion on a topic of interest, encouraging students to practice turn-taking by passing a 'speaking token' around. Conduct a role-play activity where students express different emotions and thoughts clearly in a given scenario. Reading: Guide students through a shared reading of a story that uses simple past tense verbs, highlighting examples as they read. Facilitate a paired reading session where students take turns reading paragraphs from an age-appropriate book, focusing on comprehension and summary skills. Grammar Usage At Word: Create a verb transformation exercise where students change present tense verbs to their regular simple past tense forms in sentences. Develop a worksheet activity where students match present perfect sentences with pictures illustrating past events connecting to the present. Writing: Guide students in brainstorming ideas for an argumentative or persuasive piece, organizing their thoughts using a graphic organizer. Conduct a peer review session where students exchange drafts of their writing and provide feedback on clarity and structure. Using Writing Conventions: Introduce an editing activity where students identify and correct mistakes in a provided paragraph, focusing on action words and punctuation. Lead a mini-lesson on the importance of using proper tense in writing, followed by practice sentences for correction. Extensive Reading: Organize a book club meeting where students discuss the themes and character development in their chosen book. Facilitate a 'reading marathon' session where students read multiple short stories and write brief summaries.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Oral Language: Reflect on the day's discussions by having students share one new thing they learned about effective conversation skills. Reading: Assess comprehension by asking students to present their two-paragraph summaries and receive feedback from peers. Grammar Usage At Word: Conduct a quick review quiz where students identify correct and incorrect verb usage in sentences. Writing: Invite students to share excerpts of their argumentative writing, highlighting effective use of phrases and clauses. Using Writing Conventions: Have students self-assess their writing for accurate use of action words and present their corrections to a partner. Extensive Reading: Hold a reflection circle where students discuss their favorite part of the book and why it stood out to them.
