About the school
School profile
Prempeh College is an all-boys senior high school in Sofoline, Kumasi, in Ghana's Ashanti Region. Founded in 1949 through a collaboration between the Kumasi Traditional Council, the Presbyterian and Methodist churches, and the British colonial government, it was established to fill a longstanding gap in secondary education for Ashanti and Northern Ghana. Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, after whom the school is named, donated the land it stands on. The school opened on 3 February 1949 with its first 50 students and adopted the Ashanti colours of green and gold. It is regarded as one of Ghana's most prestigious 'Grade A' senior high schools, alongside Mfantsipim and Adisadel College.
