School profile
Achimota School (formerly Prince of Wales College) is a co-educational boarding senior high school in Achimota, Accra. Founded in 1924 by Sir Frederick Gordon Guggisberg, Dr. James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey, and Rev. Alec Garden Fraser, and formally opened on 28 January 1927, it was the first government co-educational boarding institution in the Gold Coast. Modelled on the British public school system, Achimota played a foundational role in Ghana's educational history and later gave rise to the University of Ghana. Nicknamed 'Motown', it remains one of Ghana's most historic Category A schools.
