Open a topic to read the notes, copy the key parts into your notebook and do the exercises.

Numeration Systems

  1. Reading, Modelling and Comparing Numbers Beyond a BillionIn this topic you will read and write whole numbers greater than 1,000,000,000, model them using place value and expanded form, and compare and order them using the symbols >, < and =.
  2. Rounding Whole Numbers and DecimalsIn this topic you will round whole numbers greater than one billion to the nearest ten, hundred, thousand, ten thousand and hundred thousand, decide when to round up or down in real life, and round decimals to the nearest tenth, hundredth and thousandth.
  3. Decimal Places, Significant Figures and Powers of TenIn this topic you will correct numbers to a given number of decimal places and significant figures, and multiply and divide whole numbers and decimals by powers of 10 and by 0.1, 0.01 and other benchmark fractions of 10.

Number Operations

  1. Mental Mathematics Strategies and Number PropertiesIn this topic you will apply mental strategies such as compensation, doubling and halving and breaking numbers apart, use the properties of numbers to calculate quickly, and solve word problems mentally.
  2. Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Multi-Digit NumbersIn this topic you will add and subtract numbers of up to four digits and beyond with regrouping, check answers by estimation and inverse operations, and multiply and divide multi-digit numbers by one- and two-digit numbers.
  3. Story Problems with Decimals and the Meaning of PowersIn this topic you will create and solve story problems involving the four operations on decimals, and explore the meaning of repeated factors and powers using objects.
  4. Expressing Numbers as Products of Powers and the Zero IndexIn this topic you will express numbers as products of factors and of powers, write numbers as products of prime factors in index form, and show that any non-zero number raised to the power zero equals one.
  5. Evaluating Powers and Finding the HCFIn this topic you will find the value of numbers written in index form, evaluate expressions involving powers, and use prime factorisation to find the highest common factor of numbers.

Fractions

  1. Benchmark Fractions, Decimals and PercentagesIn this topic you will recall the decimal and percentage equivalents of benchmark fractions, find equivalent fractions and use them to compare quantities, and compare and order fractions, decimals and percentages.
  2. Adding and Subtracting Unlike and Mixed FractionsIn this topic you will explain and carry out the addition and subtraction of two or three unlike and mixed fractions, and solve real-life problems involving these operations.
  3. Multiplying Fractions and Finding a Fraction of a QuantityIn this topic you will explain how to multiply a fraction by a whole number and by another fraction, multiply percentages and decimal fractions, and find a fraction of a given quantity of money or objects.

Term Revision

  1. Term Revision in MathematicsIn this topic you will recall and summarise the term's work on numeration, number operations, powers and fractions, and practise answering end-of-term questions.
