2. Adding Parts

  • ½ + ½ = 1 whole
  • ¼ + ¼ = 2 quarters = ½
  • ¼ + ¼ + ¼ + ¼ = 1 whole

Example

How many quarters are in 2 wholes?

  1. 1 whole = 4 quarters
  2. 2 wholes = 4 + 4 quarters

Answer: 8 quarters
