Week 6: Lesson Plan
Subject: Computing
Class: Basic 8
Topic: Algorithm
Strand: Computational ThinkingSub-strand: Algorithm
Indicator (code): B8.5.2.1.1Content Std (code): B8.5.2.1 Demonstrate understanding of Algorithm
Performance Indicator: Learners can design an algorithm for a specific task using pseudo-codeCore Competencies: CP6.1: DL5.1
T.L.R.(s): Pencils, drawing paper
Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Recap previous knowledge about Algorithm. Quick brainstorm: What do you already know about Algorithm? Introduction to today's objectives regarding Algorithm. Mental drill or quick quiz related to Algorithm.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Define pseudo-code and discuss its key terms such as START, INPUT, OUTPUT, IF-THEN-ELSE, and END. Explain the benefits of using pseudo-code before actual coding to plan and organize thoughts. Guide students in creating pseudo-code examples, like calculating the average of two numbers. Assess understanding by having students write pseudo-code to determine if a number is even or odd.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Summarize what we learned today about Algorithm. Oral assessment: Answer key questions on Algorithm. Learners share one new thing they found out about Algorithm. Check for understanding and wrap up the week on Algorithm.
