Phase 1: Starterpreparing the brain for learning
Begin with a brief introduction to prepositions through a storytelling session where learners listen to a short story and identify prepositions used. Conduct a classroom scavenger hunt where learners find items placed in different locations and describe their positions using prepositions. Display a colorful poster with pictures illustrating the use of prepositions in, on, under, and behind, and discuss each with the class.
Phase 2: Mainnew learning including assessment
Oral Language: Engage the class in a role-play activity where learners describe the location of objects in a classroom using prepositions, taking turns to speak. Organize a 'Simon Says' game where learners follow instructions that include prepositions, such as 'put your hand on your head'. Reading: Provide learners with a short passage containing several prepositions and have them read aloud, identifying and highlighting each preposition. Students work in pairs to read a dialogue where characters describe their surroundings, focusing on the use of prepositions. Writing: Ask learners to write a short paragraph describing their favorite place using at least four different prepositions. Have learners draw a picture of a scene and write sentences describing the locations of objects in the scene using prepositions. Writing Conventions: Conduct a sentence correction exercise where learners identify and correct incorrect use of prepositions in given sentences. Organize a fill-in-the-blanks activity where learners complete sentences with appropriate prepositions.
Phase 3plenary / reflections
Oral Language: Reflect on the role-play activity by asking learners to share which prepositions they found easiest to use and why. Reading: Have learners discuss in pairs which prepositions they read in the passage and how they helped in understanding the text. Writing: Ask students to exchange their paragraphs with a partner for peer feedback on the use of prepositions. Writing Conventions: Conduct a quick quiz where learners must choose the correct preposition to complete sentences based on what was learned.
